Community Guidelines

Last updated 27 September 2026

Every zone in OneMessage has a group chat. It exists so neighbours can sort out a meal together — who needs food, where the rider is, what time Fajr is. These are the rules for that space, and how we enforce them.

Treat it like the masjid courtyard, not a private message. Everyone in your zone is reading, including your zone admin. Chat is not end-to-end encrypted.

What belongs here

What does not

Do not post:

If someone breaks these rules

You do not have to argue with them, and you do not have to wait for an admin to notice. Two things are built into the app, and you can use both at once.

Report the message

  1. Press and hold the message in the chat.
  2. Choose “Report message”.
  3. Add a reason if you want to. It is optional — you should not have to explain yourself to escape something.
  4. Tap Report.

The message and who sent it go to our moderators. The person is not told that you reported them, or who did.

We keep a copy of the reported message even if the sender deletes it afterwards — otherwise the evidence would disappear at exactly the moment it matters.

Block the person

Tick “Also block” while reporting, or press and hold any of their messages and choose Block.

How we moderate

Reports go to a queue that zone admins (for their own zone) and super admins (for everywhere) can see. A moderator reviews the message, who sent it, and whether that person has been reported before.

They can then:

ActionWhat it does
No action The message stays. Not everything reported is a breach, and a heated exchange usually is not one.
Delete the message Its content is removed for everyone and shows as “This message was deleted”.
Stop the member posting They can still read the group — that is where delivery announcements are — but cannot post in it. This is reversible.

Serious cases go further: we may remove the account entirely, and where something is unlawful we will report it to the police.

How quickly

We aim to review reports within 24 hours. Anything involving a child’s safety or a credible threat is handled as fast as we can see it, ahead of everything else.

If you think we got it wrong

Email onemessagedev@gmail.com and say what happened. A different moderator will look at it.

A note on why this page exists

This is a small community where people know each other. Most of what is on this page will never come up. It is written down anyway, because the one time it does matter, nobody should have to guess what the rules were or how to get help.
