Community Guidelines
Every zone in OneMessage has a group chat. It exists so neighbours can sort out a meal together — who needs food, where the rider is, what time Fajr is. These are the rules for that space, and how we enforce them.
What belongs here
- Sorting out tonight’s delivery — counts, addresses, timings.
- Letting people know you cannot collect your meal so it can go to someone else.
- Asking your zone admin a question.
- Reminders that help the community: Fajr timing, a change of plan, a call for volunteers.
What does not
Do not post:
- Abuse or harassment. Insults, threats, pile-ons, or repeatedly contacting someone who wants to be left alone.
- Hate. Anything attacking or demeaning people over religion, sect, caste, ethnicity, gender, disability, or where they are from. This includes sectarian abuse between Muslims.
- Sexual content. Any of it. There is no version of this that belongs in a neighbourhood food group.
- Anything involving a child’s safety. See Child Safety Standards. We treat this as the most serious thing on this page.
- Violence, or praise or encouragement of it.
- Other people’s private information — phone numbers, addresses, photographs of them — without their consent. Do not share screenshots of the group outside it.
- Spam, adverts or solicitation. Do not sell things here, and do not ask other members for money. Donations go through the donation page, never through a private request in chat.
- Impersonation. Do not pretend to be an admin, a rider, or another resident.
- Misinformation about the service — for example telling people a delivery is cancelled when it is not.
- Political campaigning or anything designed to divide the community.
If someone breaks these rules
You do not have to argue with them, and you do not have to wait for an admin to notice. Two things are built into the app, and you can use both at once.
Report the message
- Press and hold the message in the chat.
- Choose “Report message”.
- Add a reason if you want to. It is optional — you should not have to explain yourself to escape something.
- Tap Report.
The message and who sent it go to our moderators. The person is not told that you reported them, or who did.
Block the person
Tick “Also block” while reporting, or press and hold any of their messages and choose Block.
- You stop seeing their messages everywhere in the app, immediately.
- It is one-way and silent. They are not told, and their own view does not change.
- It does not remove them from the group or delete what they have already posted for everyone else.
- You can undo it any time from Profile → Blocked people.
How we moderate
Reports go to a queue that zone admins (for their own zone) and super admins (for everywhere) can see. A moderator reviews the message, who sent it, and whether that person has been reported before.
They can then:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| No action | The message stays. Not everything reported is a breach, and a heated exchange usually is not one. |
| Delete the message | Its content is removed for everyone and shows as “This message was deleted”. |
| Stop the member posting | They can still read the group — that is where delivery announcements are — but cannot post in it. This is reversible. |
Serious cases go further: we may remove the account entirely, and where something is unlawful we will report it to the police.
How quickly
We aim to review reports within 24 hours. Anything involving a child’s safety or a credible threat is handled as fast as we can see it, ahead of everything else.
If you think we got it wrong
Email onemessagedev@gmail.com and say what happened. A different moderator will look at it.
A note on why this page exists
This is a small community where people know each other. Most of what is on this page will never come up. It is written down anyway, because the one time it does matter, nobody should have to guess what the rules were or how to get help.
